Podfication

Hello folks, by now it may be clear, but this is the official announcement: Podfication will not be happening in 2021. The convention will be postponed until Fall 2022, at which point we hope to return to both an in person event and an every other year cadence.

There are a few reasons behind this: First and foremost, we want to make sure that when we get together again it is entirely safe to do so. As much as we'd like the pandemic to be fully under control by October 2021, that simply isn't a guarantee. Secondly, although ample consideration was given to holding a virtual con this year, setting up and running that type of event would involve a lot of time and energy your humble con chair does not have this year. And thirdly, there are several other wonderful virtual events with a podfic focus happening this October already. (Hello to both europodfriends and fanworks in particular! Check them both out.)

So with all that in mind, we're taking a break this year. We hope that you stick with us for future event news and information!

Big news, Podfication community. First and foremost, thank you to everyone who participated in the survey regarding the future cadence of Podfication. We read every submission and considered them all carefully when making this decision. Ultimately though, the preference was clear: Most of you would like to see Podfication move to an every other year schedule.

This means we will NOT be having a 2020 convention, but it does mean that our 2021 con will run for three days instead of two! So expect more content and fun to come.

Stay subscribed to us here on DW as well as on Twitter and Tumblr so you'll know as soon as we begin sending out reminders for the next convention cycle. We've also begun crossposting announcements to the #podfication channel in the Podfichat Discord if you're a member there.

If you haven't already, we highly recommend setting up notifications for your preferred communication channel so you're notified of new posts and won't miss a thing. Click here to do that on DW.

If you have any questions in the meantime, let us know. Otherwise we'll see you back in Minneapolis in October 2021!

We've received an anonymous donation to cover registration as well as a financial boost to travel/lodging for the 2019 convention! If you're hesitating to join us because of costs, we strongly encourage you to apply.

To do so, reply to this post with your name, handle (if different account you are posting from, otherwise no need), and an email address where we can contact you. All comments are screened. If you're at all uncomfortable replying to this post, you can alternately apply by emailing us at podfication [at] gmail dot com.

This is by the honor system so please only apply if it is the difference between attending the con and not for you.

Applications will be open through August 31, 2019. If there are multiple applications we will use a random number generator to select a recipient and notify them on September 1st. This will give our recipient time to make the necessary travel arrangements prior to the con. If any additional scholarship donations are received we will create a separate post.
