For nearly two months the citizens of Strasbourg dropped it like it was hot, literally. We'll be talking choreomania, demonic possession, and doctors who viewed the Hippocratic Oath as more of a suggestion— and finally answering the age old question, "Do hips lie?" My good podfolks! As many of you know, in the past we have hosted off-site dinners the night before the con & last night of the con. Friday night's dinner will be at Hell's Kitchen, where we've had the Sunday night dinner in previous years, and I'm thrilled to announce that this year the Sunday night dinner will be a catered event held ON-SITE!

However, we need you to RSVP in advance for both to say if you're coming, so we can get an accurate headcount for the reservation on Friday, and the catering order for Sunday. Due to space limitations, the Friday night Podfication table reservation will be for registered attendees only. Plus-ones and in-town folks are welcome to dine in, but are on their own for seating (hopefully nearby). Sunday night will be catered for Podfication members; plus-ones and guests can RSVP and pay $12 (cash only, at the dinner) for the meal.

INFO!

Friday Night Dinner
October 18th @ 6:00 P.M.
Location: Hell's Kitchen, 80 South 9th Street, Minneapolis MN 55402
www.hellskitcheninc.com
Hell's Kitchen is located in downtown Minneapolis with a parking ramp immediately next door and limited street parking available. This is the same location we've held the Sunday dinner in the past.

Sunday Night Dinner
October 20th @ 5:30 P.M.
Location: On-site at the Waterbury building
Dinner will be catered by Holy Land (menu link). We'll do our best to have gluten-free, vegetarian-, and vegan-friendly food available. The current menu includes hummus, falafel, tandoori chicken samosas, sauteed vegetables, chicken gyro, Middle eastern and Greek salads, and brown and yellow rice.

PLEASE RSVP HERE BY END OF DAY OCTOBER 13TH

Let us know if you have any questions!

We've figured out most of our logistics for this year by now, so it's time for us to get cracking on working out volunteer schedules! Here's what we need:

FRIDAY AFTERNOON/EVENING?
If you're in town and free on Friday, we may be able to set up early (we're still not sure on this and are waiting to hear from the venue.) If we can, we'd like at least 5 people for this. It'll be unstacking chairs and putting them into rows, pulling the whiteboard etc. out of storage, and just generally making sure the room will be ready for use first thing on Saturday. Depending on when the venue will allow us to do this (if they will at all), we'll be doing this either at 4:30 PM, and then heading directly from there to the Friday night dinner, OR directly after the dinner.

SATURDAY 8AM
If it turns out we aren't able to do Friday setup of the rooms, we'll need 5+ folks at the venue at 8AM to make it all happen before the con kicks off at 9AM. It'll be moving chairs, setting up the panel and recording rooms, etc.

SATURDAY 11:30AM
We'll need 2-3 folks to help set up the sandwich lunch event in the kitchenette area! We'll also need the same numbers of peeps to help clean up after it's over at 12:50PM!

SATURDAY 7PM
We'll need 2-3 people to make sure 106A is in shape for Live Performances! This will be mostly putting chairs into rows.

SUNDAY 6PM
We'll need 5-6 people to help clean up and teardown after things are all over! It'll be restacking chairs, general cleaning up, and putting things away before we head out to the Sunday offsite dinner.

If you're willing and able to commit to any of these things in advance, please reply to this post and let us know what you're able to help with. Thanks in advance, we couldn't do this without y'all <3

Time to prepare for our Fourth Annual In-Person Podfic Love Fest! This event is an opportunity to enjoy listening to podfic in a room of people who love it as much as you do—sharing aloud the laughter, gasps, and sometimes even tears that great podfic inspires in us. But beyond that, it’s an opportunity for podficcers, who often receive little feedback, to have a few minutes of this con dedicated to showering them with in-person appreciation by fellow members of their community.

Interested?

Here’s how it will work: each participating podficcer will prepare a clip of their podfic that they want to play in the room. This clip can be from 30 seconds to 2.5 minutes, and it should be chosen with the room in mind — ideally a part with strong humor or emotional resonance that can be understood with minimal context even to those unfamiliar to the fandom. After the clip, audience members will have about 3 minutes to raise their hands and share with the podficcer, in person, what they loved about that particular clip and/or what they love about them as a podficcer. As the event name implies, this event will be for positive feedback only, not advice or concrit.

We'll likely have 90 minutes for this event, which means we can have 5-minute spot to up to 18 podficcers! If we receive more than 18 clip submissions, the remainder will be put on a wait list, and if extra time becomes available we will happily use it to discuss them. To submit clips, please email them to lunate8@gmail.com along with the information listed below. Submissions will stay open through Sunday, October 6th.

Clip requirements: 30 seconds minimum to 2 minutes 30 seconds maximum; mp3 or wav format; file name “podficcer_partial title.mp3”

Podficcer:
Story title:
Fandom:
Pairing or Gen:
Summary of clip (1-2 sentences):
This should not be the summary of the fic but should instead give enough context that everyone listening in the room will be able to understand your clip even if they are not familiar with the whole podfic. Copies of the summaries will be handed out to event attendees.

Clip file name, and link to clip if not attached:

EXAMPLE
Podficcer: MediumMindy
Story title: Cannonball Run V - The Reckoning
Fandom: The Good Place
Pairing or Gen: Gen
Summary of clip (1-2 sentences): Mindy goes on about her thoughts on the Cannonball Run franchise, to the dismay of Team Cockroach.

If you have any questions, please ask them in the comments. If we reach 18 clips, we will add an ETA to the top of this post, so as long as you don’t see one there is probably still room!

Live performance sign-ups for 2019 are now open!

This event is a chance for anyone who'd like to do a reading for a live audience at the convention. It's a lot of fun!

You can do something new, something you've recorded before, an excerpt from a longer work (give us a heads up on that please), arrange or join a multi-voice performance, or whatever you like so long as it abides by the rules below.

While this is mostly an event that's performance for performance's sake, we'll be recording it. After the con, we'll post it to AO3 for everyone's enjoyment. There is an opt out if you'd rather not have your performance included and/or if you don't have author permission.

To make sure we can fit in everybody who wants to read:

  • Performances should not run longer than 15 minutes total.

  • 1 sign-up per individual.

  • In addition to a solo performance, you can participate in up to 2 multi-voice performances.

The form will remain open through Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 11:59pm CST.

Any questions, just let us know! Drop us a comment, tweet ([community profile] podfication), ask (podfication.tumblr.com), or email (podfication at gmail).

We've received an anonymous donation to cover registration as well as a financial boost to travel/lodging for the 2019 convention! If you're hesitating to join us because of costs, we strongly encourage you to apply.

To do so, reply to this post with your name, handle (if different account you are posting from, otherwise no need), and an email address where we can contact you. All comments are screened. If you're at all uncomfortable replying to this post, you can alternately apply by emailing us at podfication [at] gmail dot com.

This is by the honor system so please only apply if it is the difference between attending the con and not for you.

Applications will be open through August 31, 2019. If there are multiple applications we will use a random number generator to select a recipient and notify them on September 1st. This will give our recipient time to make the necessary travel arrangements prior to the con. If any additional scholarship donations are received we will create a separate post.

If you have any questions about the scholarship drop us a comment, a DM on Twitter, or email.

7/24/2019 UPDATE: We've received an additional generous donation we're going to roll into this scholarship that will better cover any travel/lodgings costs that applicants may need. Thank you so much, donors!

Panel requests for 2019 are now open: Click here!

We're accepting submissions up through Saturday, September 7, 2019 @ 11:59pm CDT.

Never run a panel before? No problem! The stakes are low and the Podfication crowd is super chill. If you've got a topic you want to talk about with people for an hour, you can run a panel! Interested in running a demo, game, or event instead? No problem! Submit your idea through the same form and tell us all about it.

A few things to be aware of:

  • You can submit more than one idea!

  • If we run out of space and you've submitted more than one idea, we may have to choose between them. So if there's one topic you favor over others let us know!

  • Have an idea but don't want to run it alone? Drop a comment on this thread asking for co-panelists! Or let us know and we can put the call out on social media for you.

  • Would you like to help run a panel but don't have a good topic of your own? Check the comments!

Some more relevant info:

  • We'll have a screen, projector, and speakers for the panel room, but you'll have to provide your own laptop or other device to connect up to it. It's a newish one so we're double checking on the inputs for it, but it will definitely take HDMI. All other formats are up in the air at the moment but reach out if you've got a question about a specific one. If all you need is audio, as long as your device has a standard 3.5mm audio jack you're good.

Any questions, just let us know!

For folks not in easy driving distance of the Twin Cities, you can use this post to find roommates to share a hotel room/Airbnb with, or connect up with locals who are able to host some attendees for the weekend!

There are quite a few hotels in downtown Minneapolis that are an easy bus ride away from the Waterbury building/GPS Event Horizon Community Center. Google Maps should be able to give you the logistical lowdown on that, depending on which hotel you're looking up. Metro Transit also has your back for planning your bus route.

Many people in previous years have stayed in groups in Airbnbs near the venue, which has worked out well, and we highly recommend! While we'll leave actual rental & group organization up to you, we definitely encourage you to use this option. :)

Locals, if you have some guest rooms or couch space you're able to spare, please post to let folks know! Any space available at an individual's home is at their discretion, of course.

CLICK TO REGISTER FOR PODFICATION! - OCT. 19-20, 2019

What is Podfication?
An informal, two day convention for podfic creators and listeners! Join us in Minneapolis for hanging out, discussion, and recording.

When and where will it happen?
October 19th & 20th, 2019 at the Geek Partnership Society's Event Horizon community center, rooms 106 & 107 within the Waterbury Building which is large, red and hard to miss. (1121 Jackson St NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413)

Where can I stay if this isn't at a hotel?
The Event Horizon center is a convenient bus ride from downtown Minneapolis, which has many hotels. There may also be locals who can accommodate a few people, at their discretion. We encourage finding roommates and renting some local Airbnb's within walking distance of the venue, which has worked out wonderfully in past years! Visit the Lodgings Finder post to connect with people looking for roommates for the weekend.

What's the Event Horizon center like?
We have access to three rooms, one that has some comfy couch seating for hanging out and chatting, one for recording that's as sound isolated as is possible, and one for panels. We also have access to a small kitchenette. Public restrooms are just down the hall and parking is free.

I have a question about accessibility.
We want to accommodate any accessibility needs that we can. You can find our accessibility guide here. If you have any concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Do I have to be over 18 to attend?
Yes, since discussions can be of a mature nature, we ask that attendees are 18 years of age or older. Children under age 1 are welcome in the con space as long as they are attended by their parent/guardian.

Who's running this show?
[personal profile] revolutionaryjo and [personal profile] bessyboo are your co-chairs, but it takes a village. If you're interested in helping us staff this thing believe us we're interested in your help. Get in touch. If you're not up for that much responsibility, but still want to help we'll be calling for volunteers closer to October. Keep an eye out!

How do I register?
You can register using a variety of payment types here for $50.00 + $3.08 Eventbrite fee (USD). This is an unavoidable increase over prior years due to increasing costs associated with our venue. Everybody wants to live in NE Minneapolis, what can I tell you.

Can I purchase a supporting membership or donate?
We don't have a lot to offer you beyond endless thanks, but we'll happily mail you a copy of the programming guide after the convention if you chip in at least $25.00 USD. The best means of payment is via PayPal to podfication at gmail dot com. (If you'd like us to mail you that programming guide, please include your postal address in the notes!) If PayPal is a no-go, reach out and we'll figure out another way.

Do you have a scholarship program I can donate to?
You are a world class human being, friend. If you'd like to donate to cover the cost of registration for someone, the best way is to PayPal $50 per donated registration to podfication at gmail dot com. Be sure to note for us that what you're sending is a scholarship, or we'll assume it to be a general donation. If you can't do PayPal, reach out to us and we'll figure another way.

Do you have a scholarship program I can apply for?
Yes! We have one scholarship we're accepting applications for through August 31, 2019. Check this post for details and how to apply. If any additional scholarship donations are received, we'll make an additional post and update this FAQ.

More questions?
We'll be periodically updating this community as time goes on with more information. In the meantime, if you want to ask us a question directly, send over an email (podfication at gmail), a tweet (@podfication), an ask at podfication.tumblr.com, or drop us a comment here. We look forward to hearing from you!
