It's that time again. A few wheels are still in motion, but we know where we need the rest of our volunteers. If you're down for helping with any of these tasks please let us know!

FRIDAY AFTERNOON
If you're in town and free on Friday, we could use 2-3 people to help set up our rooms! It'll be unstacking chairs and putting them into rows, pulling the whiteboard and whatnot out storage, and just generally making sure the room will be ready for use first thing on Saturday. We'll meet up at the venue at 4:30pm for this before proceeding to the Friday dinner.

SATURDAY 8AM
If it turns out we aren't able to do Friday setup of the rooms, we'll need 2-3 folks at the venue at 8am to make it all happen before the con kicks off at 9am. It'll be moving chairs, setting up the panel and recording rooms, etc.

SATURDAY 11:30AM
We'll need 2-3 folks to help set up the sandwich lunch event in the kitchenette area! We'll also need the same numbers of peeps to help clean up after it's over at 12:50pm!

SATURDAY 7PM
We'll need 2-3 people to make sure 106A is in shape for Live Performances! This will be mostly putting chairs into rows.

SUNDAY 6PM
We'll need 5-6 people to help clean up and teardown after things are all over! It'll be restacking chairs, general cleaning up, and putting things away before we head out to the Sunday offsite dinner.

If you're willing and able to commit to any of these things in advance, please drop us a comment, a tweet, or email to let us know to expect you. EXTREME THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Hi friends! We've received a scholarship donation to cover the cost of registration for the 2018 convention. If you've been hesitating to join us because of the cost, now is your chance.

In order to apply please reply to this post with your full name, online handle (if different from the logged in account you are posting from, otherwise no need), and an email where we can contact you. All comments will be screened.

This will be by the honor system, so please only apply if it will be the difference between attending the con and not for you this year.

There is of course only a short window before the con happens, so this post will only be open through end of day Wednesday, October 17. We will use a random number generator to select a recipient, and will notify them on the 18th.

Friends! Countrypeople! Fellow podfic lovers! As many of you know, we host off-site dinners the night before the con & last night of the con. We need you to RSVP in advance to say if you're coming.

It's important that we get an accurate headcount so that we don't overwhelm the restaurant staff. Due to limited space, we can't accommodate plus-ones at the Friday night dinner, it is for con attendees only; however, plus ones/others locals are welcome at the Sunday dinner.

INFO!

Friday Night Dinner
October 19th @ 6:00 P.M
Location: Domo Gastro, 1032 3rd Ave NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413
www.domogastro.com
Domo Gastro is just a couple blocks south of the Waterbury building with on site and street parking available. Don't wait for the whole group to arrive to go ahead and order/get your food. The kitchen can stagger the meal preparation that way. (This is also where the Friday night dinner was last year.)

Sunday Night Dinner
October 21nd @ 6:30 P.M.
Location: Hell's Kitchen, 80 South 9th Street, Minneapolis MN 55402
www.hellskitcheninc.com
Hell's Kitchen is located in downtown Minneapolis with a parking ramp immediately next door and limited street parking available. This is the same location we've always held the Sunday dinner.

PLEASE RSVP HERE BY END OF DAY OCTOBER 15TH

Let us know if you have any quesitons!

Time to prepare for our Third Annual In-Person Podfic Love Fest! This event is an opportunity to enjoy listening to podfic in a room of people who love it as much as you do—sharing aloud the laughter, gasps, and sometimes even tears that great podfic inspires in us. But beyond that, it’s an opportunity for podficcers, who often receive little feedback, to have a few minutes of this con dedicated to showering them with in-person appreciation by fellow members of their community.

Interested?

Here’s how it will work: each participating podficcer will prepare a clip of their podfic that they want to play in the room. This clip can be from 30 seconds to 2.5 minutes, and it should be chosen with the room in mind—ideally a part with strong humor or emotional resonance that can be understood with minimal context even to those unfamiliar to the fandom. After the clip, audience members will have about 3 minutes to raise their hands and share with the podficcer, in person, what they loved about that particular clip and/or what they love about them as a podficcer. As the event name implies, this event will be for positive feedback only, not advice or concrit.

We'll likely have 90 minutes for this event, which means we can have 5-minute spot to up to 18 podficcers! If we receive more than 18 clip submissions, the remainder will be put on a wait list, and if extra time becomes available we will happily use it to discuss them. To submit clips, please email them to sekritproject@gmail.com along with the information listed below. Submissions will stay open through Sunday, September 30th.

Clip requirements: 30 seconds minimum to 2 minutes 30 seconds maximum; mp3 or wav format; file name “podficcer_partial title.mp3”

Podficcer:
Story title:
Fandom:
Pairing or Gen:
Summary of clip (1-2 sentences):
This should not be the summary of the fic but should instead give enough context that everyone listening in the room will be able to understand your clip even if they are not familiar with the whole podfic. Copies of the summaries will be handed out to event attendees.

Clip file name, and link to clip if not attached:

EXAMPLE
Podficcer: DrYates
Story title: Ghosts From Our Future: Both Literally and Temporally
Fandom: Ghostbusters (2016)
Pairing or Gen: Gen
Summary of clip (1-2 sentences): Abby Yates and Patty Tolan discuss the unusual EVP they recorded at the old Shandor mansion.

If you have any questions, please ask them in the comments. If we reach 18 clips, we will add an ETA to the top of this post, so as long as you don’t see one there is probably still room!

Live performance sign-ups for 2018 are now open!

Please read the rules below as there's a minor change from last year to be aware of.

This event is a chance for anyone who'd like to do a reading for a live audience at the convention. It's a lot of fun!

You can do something new, something you've recorded before, an excerpt from a longer work (give us a heads up on that please), arrange or join a multi-voice performance, or whatever you like so long as it abides by the rules below.

While this is mostly an event that's performance for performance's sake, we'll be recording it. After the con, we'll post it to AO3 for everyone's enjoyment. There is an opt out if you'd rather not have your performance included and/or if you don't have author permission.

To make sure we can fit in everybody who wants to read:

  • Performances should not run longer than 15 minutes total.

  • 1 sign-up per individual.

  • In addition to a solo performance, you can participate in up to 2 multi-voice performances.

The form will remain open through Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 11:59pm CST.

Any questions, just let us know! Drop us a comment, tweet (@podfication), ask (podfication.tumblr.com), or email (podfication at gmail).

Panel requests for 2018 are now open! Click here!

We're accepting submissions up through Saturday September 6, 2018 @ 11:59pm CDT.

Never run a panel before? No problem! The stakes are low and the Podfication crowd is super chill. If you've got a topic you want to talk about with people for an hour, you can run a panel! Interested in running a demo, game, or event instead? No problem! Submit your idea through the same form and tell us all about it.

A few things to be aware of:

  • You can submit more than one idea!

  • If we run out of space and you've submitted more than one idea, we may have to choose between them. So if there's one topic you favor over others let us know!

  • Have an idea but don't want to run it alone? Drop a comment on this thread asking for co-panelists! Or let us know and we can put the call out on social media for you.

  • Would you like to help run a panel but don't have a good topic of your own? Check the comments!

Some more relevant info:

  • We'll have a screen, projector, and speakers for the panel room, but you'll have to provide your own laptop or other device to connect up to it. The projector has a VGA input. If your device exports through HDMI, we've got an adapter for that you can borrow. If all you need is audio, as long as your device has a standard audio jack you're good.

Any questions, just let us know!

For folks not in easy driving distance of the Twin Cities, you can use this post to find roommates to share a hotel room/Airbnb with, or connect up with locals who are able to host some attendees for the weekend!

The GPS Community Center is located at 1121 NE Jackson St., Minneapolis MN 55413. There are quite a few hotels in downtown Minneapolis that are an easy bus ride away. Google Maps should be able to give you the logistical lowdown on that, depending on which hotel you're looking up. Metro Transit also has your back for planning your bus route.

Many people in previous years have stayed in groups in Airbnbs near the venue, which has worked out really well, and we highly recommend! While we'll leave actual rental & group organization up to you, we definitely encourage you to use this option. :)

As always: You may be tempted to stay at the University Inn off of 4th St as it's the closest hotel to the center, but trust me and do not do the thing. Maybe something has changed in the last decade since I lived in that area, but I know it as a place to avoid and am thus passing on this important info.

Locals, if you have some guest rooms or couch space you're able to spare, please post to let folks know! Any space available at an individual's home is at their discretion, of course.

REGISTER FOR PODFICATION 2018 HERE!

What is Podfication?
An informal convention for podfic creators and listeners! Join us in Minneapolis for our third year of hanging out, discussion, and recording.

When and where is this thing?
October 20th & 21st, 2018 at the Geek Partnership Society's Event Horizon community center. (1121 Jackson St NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413)

So kind of like a convention?
Exactly like a convention! But our events take place at the Geek Partnership Society's community center rooms rather than in a conventional hotel.

Why Minneapolis? Isn't Minnesota COLD?
Because that's where Bess and Jo live. And look, it's PROBABLY not going to snow in October. Probably. (Also, more seriously, we have direct access to facilities and resources here, and autumn in the Midwest is actually very lovely.)

So where am I going to stay?
The Event Horizon center is a convenient bus ride from downtown Minneapolis, which has many hotels. There may also be some locals who can accommodate a few people, at their discretion. We encourage finding roommates and renting some local Airbnb's within walking distance of the venue, which has worked out wonderfully the last couple years! You can check the Lodgings Finder post to help find roommates for the weekend.

Geek Community Center, huh? That sounds kind of neat.
Yes! And it is! We have access to three rooms, one that has some comfy couch seating for hanging out and chatting, one for recording that's as sound isolated as we can manage, and one that can be used for panels. We also have access to a small kitchenette.

But let us manage your expectations a bit. There isn't much within walking distance of it. The ceilings are high, and it's right next to railroad tracks. The building is shared with other groups so sound can and will bleed between the rooms and from outside. It's not perfect, especially for recording, but it is a space we can all gather and talk about all things podfic for a reasonable cost!

I have a question about accessibility.
We want to accommodate any accessibility needs that we can! You can find our accessibility guide here. If you have any concerns or questions, please reach out to us.

Are you gonna talk about the *whispers* fanfictions?
You bet we are. And since those discussions can be of a mature nature, we ask that attendees are 18 years of age or older. Children under age 1 are welcome in the con space as long as they are attended by their parent/guardian since they are unlikely to be adversely affected by discussions around the nuances of the omegaverse, MPREG, and the one where they're shrimp.

Who's behind the curtain?
[personal profile] revolutionaryjo and [personal profile] bessyboo primarily, but it takes a village! If you're interested in helping us staff this thing believe us we're interested in your help. Get in touch. If you're not up for that much responsibility, but still want to help we'll be calling for volunteers closer to October. Keep an eye out!

Sounds great, I'm in!
Awesome! You can register using a variety of payment types here for $42.00 + $2.71 Eventbrite fee (USD).

I can't make it, but I think what you guys are doing is rad as heck and I want to contribute!
*through tears* Bro. BRO. Get in touch with us using one of the options below and we'll figure out how to make that happen. You're a superstar.

I have so many more questions.
So do I, friend. So do I. We'll be periodically updating this community as time goes on with more information. In the meantime, if you want to ask us a question directly, shoot us an email (podfication at gmail), send us a tweet (@podfication), an ask at podfication.tumblr.com, or drop us a comment here. We look forward to hearing from you!
