Hey everybody! We're pretty excited about how many of you have registered so far and hope you're excited about coming to Podfication too.

Now that we know there will be actual people in attendance, we thought we'd get a post up to brainstorm the sort of activities/programming we'll be running over the course of the weekend. Drop us some comments!

Here are some things we're definitely planning:

  • Unofficial Friday Night Dinner Officially we don't get started until Saturday morning, but unofficially we know a lot of you will be in town before that.

  • Saturday Night Option Organized outing to a local club (for the dancing inclined!) or a quieter evening of board games and chatting.

  • Call for Fics Call out to authors who would like to write something under 5k that is intended to be read out loud by multiple people in the same room. More details on this as we hash it out, but larger/well-known fandoms preferred and no guarantee that the story will end up getting recorded, of course.

We'll have a semi-formal process to submit panels and some sort of voting system for them closer to October, but feel free to use this thread to drum up some interest or find potential co-panelists in the meantime. :)

Okay, here's a maybe-weird idea that I just had. Since podfic feedback is pretty rare and so wonderful, what about a live feedback/love-fest type thing, where the mods pull out 1-minute clips from podfics by each the attendees (or attendees are invited to send in their own 1-minute clip of a part of a podfic they are proud of) and then people in the room can raise their hand and tell the podficcer, in person, what they love about them as a podficcer/about that particular clip. It could be a really lovely bonding type of thing and start the con with people feeling happy and loved and respected. The only problem is that there are (at least) 31 people coming, which is a lot... but maybe it could be split up into two parts, so each morning starts with 15 of them? If it were an hour, that would be 1 min for the clip, 3 min for comments. And it would take even less time if you did the people-submit-their-own option and not everybody who attended sent one in.

Not like vid review b/c no criticism (unless, idk, if the person wanted to opt in for concrit maybe they could specify? But by default it would just be getting to hear in-person love from other podficcers.)

Is... this... a good idea? Cannot tell. Feel free to tell me it is not!

It sounds great! I'd personally love to give people (who want it) feedback in person.

My only problems is that 1 min out of an unknown podfic (and unread source text) isn't enough for me to draw on what I like to give in a feedback so that it's unique and personalised. If we could know in advance some of the podfics, I'd gladly listen to them in the weeks in advance. Then I'd be happy to read my notes outloud, with great enthusiasm.

The numbers problem can be helped with the fact that as an opt-in, and since not everyone coming in are podficcers, the number of clips will probably be much lower than 30.

Hm... I don't want to ask everyone to do HW, but I do want to allow the option. If everybody involved is okay with it, perhaps I could keep a post (or a shareable google spreadsheet) with the 1-min clips as they come in and with a link to the podfic they're from, so nobody would feel uncomfortably on the spot if they are the type of person who likes to be prepared for something like that.

Of course, those who did prep would need to keep in mind to keep their comments short, because there would only be a couple of minutes to give feedback to each podficcer.

As for numbers, I could see it going either way, but I think we can play with time once we see how much interest there is and make it work regardless.
