Panel Requests 2018

Panel requests for 2018 are now open! Click here!

We're accepting submissions up through Saturday September 6, 2018 @ 11:59pm CDT.

Never run a panel before? No problem! The stakes are low and the Podfication crowd is super chill. If you've got a topic you want to talk about with people for an hour, you can run a panel! Interested in running a demo, game, or event instead? No problem! Submit your idea through the same form and tell us all about it.

A few things to be aware of:

  • You can submit more than one idea!

  • If we run out of space and you've submitted more than one idea, we may have to choose between them. So if there's one topic you favor over others let us know!

  • Have an idea but don't want to run it alone? Drop a comment on this thread asking for co-panelists! Or let us know and we can put the call out on social media for you.

  • Would you like to help run a panel but don't have a good topic of your own? Check the comments!

Some more relevant info:

  • We'll have a screen, projector, and speakers for the panel room, but you'll have to provide your own laptop or other device to connect up to it. The projector has a VGA input. If your device exports through HDMI, we've got an adapter for that you can borrow. If all you need is audio, as long as your device has a standard audio jack you're good.

Any questions, just let us know!

I'd love a co-panelist for a sound effects panel! Either someone who can talk from the technical/how-to side or who can share lots of recs and talk about what makes listening to podfic with sound effects enjoyable (or both!). I plan to include both sides of things in the panel

depending on other panel commitments I would be down for this! I can talk about Foley (making your own effects) and how to incorporate stuff from a more technical (audacity based) side. I am not so prevalent in listening...

ack, sorry, meant to reply to this! Let me know when you have an idea about your other panel commitments and if you'll have time?

Yeah, I think I am going to withdraw from this. I will HAPPILY attend, I just think other ppl would be better at talking about this? and now that you have someone that is great. Unless you ALSO want me involved. at which point I will throw caution into the wind and say SURE. (no need though. I'm going to have a bunch of other panels)

ah! yeah! I had kind of assumed since you hadn't responded with definite plans that you were going to be too busy for it

I'd love to do a workshop for "Daunting Podfic"

People could bring a podfic (actual files, a fic, weird experimental thing they wanna do but can't figure out) that they are either stuck on, afraid of, still puzzling out and we can work on it. I was thinking more like a working time where people could share ideas and work on stuff.

Need help organizing a really long podfic you wanna do but can't even figure out where to start? Want advice on how to organize/produce a massive multivoice? Need to workshop an experimental thing that you have the idea for but can't figure out? Need help with this one effect/mouth noise that you can't get right? Need someone to cheer you on while you send that permission request that you have always dreamed of?

The focus here would be on individual works (as opposed to new challenges or communities) and hopefully we can have people actually working on stuff for the hour.

Ideas in search of comods

[personal profile] klb 2018-09-01 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I have 4 panel ideas and I'd be happy to comod up to three of them. I'm also happy to let someone else take over one or more of them entirely, if you are interested in taking an idea and running with it!

Here they are:

-How to stay involved in podfic fandom when real life tries to eat you (i.e. when life gets super busy and it becomes really hard to actually make podfic). Ideas for how to fit podfic in in short bursts, or how to be involved other than making your own podfic, etc.

-Double-panel where the first hour is coming up with different games and activities podficcers can do at in-person meetups and the second hour is trying out some of those games/activities. (I'm SUPER EXCITED about this one)

-Design the ideal fandom for podfic—what are the plusses and minuses of different fandoms we've podficced in, what makes a fandom good for podficcing, and what would our dream fandom for podfic look like?

-Multivoice podfics—Different ways to split a text into multiple voices, in-person versus long distance, and how to make multivoice podfics successful

Update: I now have a comod for multivoice podfics and for the double panel! Still looking for up to 1 more for comodding.

Updated update: I now have a comod for the ideal fandom for podfic panel as well! Which means the podficcing when life eats you panel is up for grabs if anybody wants it.
