Welcome to Podfication! Opening Remarks & Land Acknowledgment

Welcome to Podfication! Announcements, land acknowledgement, and other important information.

Guess that Voice
Room 107 - Saturday, 9:55 A.M.
Panelists: Shmaylor
It's that time again! Join your friends and guess your way to team victory by picking out narrator, fandom, and fic from short clips of audio.

Podficcer-Beta Relationships
Room 107 - Saturday, 11:05 A.M.
Panelists: bessyboo, reena_jenkins
Many podficcers use betas for their podfics. But how do you find the right beta for you? How do you develop that relationship to get the most out of the beta process? Let’s discuss with a podficcer & beta who have been developing their relationship for nearly a decade.

Lunch Break & Saturday Sandwich Lunch
Saturday, 12:05 P.M. - 1:30 P.M.
We'll have sandwich fixings available in the kitchen area for any attendees who would like to partake!

Character Voices and You!
Room 107 - Saturday, 1:30 P.M.
Panelists: Opalsong, Rhea314
Dialogue-only fic, cartoony canon, massive casts, or just an intimate scene between characters you love. Podfic of these things can be enhanced by giving each character a distinct voice. But how? What goes into a character voice? How do you do it consistently? How do you have one for every speaking role? Join us as we discuss these questions and more!

Voices, Gender, and Identity
Room 107 - Saturday, 2:40 P.M.
Panelists: wingedwords
The way people sound is often so closely tied to how their gender is perceived. In the case of podfic, the choices a reader makes in terms of pitch and tone affect how listeners hear both the genders of the characters and the gender of the podficcer. Sometimes voicing characters of different genders (or lack thereof) can be an awesome opportunity for gender exploration, and sometimes it's painful and fraught. Working within our own vocal range, how do we choose the way a character sounds, and what kind of feelings do we have about those choices? The moderators will explore some questions around gender and voice in podfic and facilitate group discussion.

In-Person Podfic Love Fest
Room 107 - Saturday, 3:50 P.M.
Panelists: Lunate8
This event is an opportunity to enjoy listening to podfic in a room of people who love it as much as you do—sharing aloud the laughter, gasps, and sometimes even tears that great podfic inspires in us. But beyond that, it’s an opportunity for podficcers, who often receive little feedback, to have a few minutes of this con dedicated to showering them with in-person appreciation by fellow members of their community.

Dinner Break
Saturday, 5:50 P.M. - 7:30 P.M.

Live Performances
Room 106A - Saturday, 7:20 P.M.
Live readings from your fellow Podfication attendees! Intermission from 8:40-8:50pm.

SUNDAY

Oral not!Fic
Room 107 - Sunday, 9:00 A.M.
Panelists: Opalsong, Rhea314, kes (exmanhater)
Next verse, same as the first. Ever wanted to try oral not!fic, join us! Want to discover what it's like to create a story communally with our voices, here's your chance! Or maybe you're a pro at this already, come lend us your skills. :D We'll be talking about what goes into this style of transformative work, and different variations you can do, and then creating one of our very own.

Fix My Cover Art
Room 107 - Sunday, 10:10 A.M.
Panelists: bessyboo
Ever start fiddling with a piece of cover art, but no matter what you do, you just can’t get it to look QUITE how you want it? In this instructional panel, Bess will take 1-2 pieces of attendee-submitted cover art that they aren’t happy with, and walk through fixing them in real time on a projector so you can see how it all is done, step-by-step.

Podfic as Therapy: Feeling All the Feels
Room 107 - Sunday, 11:20 A.M.
Panelists: kes (exmanhater)
Sometimes performing a fic can be an act of mostly unrelated emotional catharsis as well as an expression of love for that particular fic or characters. Let's talk about how we use podfic, fic, and fandom to process feelings and help us work through things. And then let's share recs!

Lunch Break
Sunday, 12:20 P.M. - 1:35 P.M.
Optional group photo in room 107 at the start of the break.

Multivoice Podfics
Room 107 - Sunday, 1:35 P.M.
Panelists: Opalsong
Ever wondered how that podfic that you love with 15 voices got made? How did they even do that? Focusing on multivoice podfics of the more complicated kind, we will discuss how to put them together - everything from what kind of fic works the best to how to find people to how in the world do you even edit that many people together.

Fandom Osmosis Podfic Exchange
Room 107 - Sunday, 2:45 P.M.
Panelists: Rhea314
Do you have a fandom you dearly love and wish there was more podfic in? Bring a 2,000 or fewer word fic to this panel! We'll pair everyone up, spend a few minutes sharing with our partners about our chosen fandom (which they know nothing about) and listening to why they love their chosen fandom, then everyone will make a podfic for that new-to-you fandom, and then receive a podfic of the fandom/short fic you've been hoping for!

Pimp My Fandom
Room 107 - Sunday, 3:55 P.M.
Panelists: revolutionaryjo
Do you have a fandom you love that needs more podfic? Does your fandom have a higher than average number of Blanket Permission authors? Is your fandom already audio-based and supportive of experimental audio creations? Is your fandom full of amazing podfic and you just want to be sure we're all aware of it so we can listen too? Tell us about why we should check out this source you love and gain a wealth of podfic possibilities in doing so!

Closing Remarks
Room 107 - Sunday, 5:05 P.M.
Farewell and last minute important information that needs to be relayed.

Sunday Dinner
Sunday, 5:30 P.M.
You didn't think we'd leave you hanging after closing remarks, did you? If you can, join us for dinner! We're still finalizing the details, but we anticipate catering into the venue this year. We'll have more info and instructions on how to RSVP available soon.
